IPS officer Deepam Seth appointed new Uttarakhand Director General of Police

IPS officer Deepam Seth was appointed the new Director General of Police of Uttarakhand on Saturday. Seth, a 1995 batch IPS officer from the Uttarakhand cadre, is currently serving as the Additional Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Seth had served as the Addittional Superintendent of Police of Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar in undivided Uttar Pradesh. He also served as the City Superintendent of Police of Agra.
After the formation of Uttarakhand, he served as the Senior Superintendent of Police of Nainital to Additional Secretary Home, Inspector General of Provincial Armed Constabulary and Inspector General of Law and Order, among other posts.
Deepam Seth was posted as the Inspector General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police in Chandigarh on a central deportation last year.
Seth will take over the charge from acting DGP Abhinav Kumar.
Kumar is the acting DGP of Uttarakhand since November 2023. Originally allotted to Uttar Pradesh in 1996, Abhinav Kumar opted for the Uttarakhand cadre upon the state’s creation in 2000. However, he was retained in the Uttar Pradesh cadre, a decision he challenged through various legal avenues. In October, Abhinav Kumar raised objections to being excluded from the Uttarakhand government’s DGP panel sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), as per news agency ANI.
